Internship resume format that gets you shortlisted
How to build a resume for internships in India: what to put first, how to talk about college work, and what recruiters skim.
Who this is for
You’re applying for a summer, winter, or off-cycle internship. You may have coursework, clubs, and one small project, or you may already have a prior internship. Either way, keep it to one clear page and make the relevant proof easy to find.
Section order that works
- Contact: name, phone, email, city. LinkedIn or GitHub if they’re real.
- Education: degree, college, year. GPA if it helps.
- Experience / internships: anything with a real org and dates.
- Projects: 2-4 that match the internship family (dev, design, analyst, etc.).
- Skills: tools you can discuss in a screen or interview.
- Extras: positions of responsibility, relevant certs. Keep them short.

Write like the internship is a real job
Use the company’s name, your title (Intern, Research Intern, Analyst Intern), and month ranges. Bullets should sound like work: what you built, analyzed, supported, or shipped, even if the scope was small. “Helped the team” without detail doesn’t help you.
Match the posting without copying it
If they’re hiring a data intern, bring coursework, Excel/SQL/Python projects, and any analysis bullets to the top. If it’s frontend, lead with UI projects. Same resume base, different emphasis. Fifteen minutes of reordering beats a brand-new document every time.
Common internship resume mistakes
- Objective paragraphs that say nothing (“seeking a challenging internship”).
- Listing every subject you’ve ever taken.
- Skills you only saw in a one-hour workshop.
- Broken portfolio links.
- Two pages of thin content.
